Six w/ Seedlip: Tyson Buhler

Meet one of the bartenders joining us at our Golden Hour Guest Shift at Tales of the Cocktail, Beverage Director of Death & Company, Tyson Buhler.

Based in Lawrence, Kansas, Buhler took home the 2015 U.S. Bartender of the Year in Diageo’s World Class cocktail competition.

Get to know Tyson more on this installment of Six with Seedlip & see him at Tales!

I. How did you feel leading up to working our event?

Excited! Always love the excitement of the first day of Tales and couldn't be happier to be kicking it of with a great event and great people.

II. How did you get into the hospitality industry?

My first job in the industry was washing dishes over 20+ years ago. Since then I’ve worked just about every position, in every type of bar or restaurant you can think of.

III. What's your favorite non-alc cocktail?

I love really simple preparations. Pairing a high quality NA spirit with really cold, really bubbly seltzer and aromatic citrus always hits the spot for me

IV. Why do you think non-alc/zero proof cocktails are trending with Millennials and Gen Z right now?

We’re continuing to see a huge rise in the zero proof space and the numbers at my bars are backing that up. Drinking less is in vogue and its a great thing to see.

V. If you had a crystal ball, where do you see the non-alc category going in the next five years?

While the meteoric rise of the zero proof category may slow, I think becuase its still in its infancy, we’ll see a lot more innovation and growth in ways were not currently seeing

VI. What do you enjoy most about being behind the bar and working in hospitality?

The people. The gratification of getting to help people experience new things or being a conduit to their night out with friends or family, is something not many other industries get to experience. It’s a bit selfish, but that feeling of making someone’s night is what I love to chase and there’s new opportunities to do so on a nightly basis.
